ASSESSOR CARMEN CHU LAUNCHES NEW APPRAISER TRAINEE INITIATIVE

SAN FRANCISCO – Recruitment for a new class of appraiser trainees was announced today by the San Francisco Office of the Assessor-Recorder.  The initiative is part of the Office’s proactive strategy to recruit and train talented individuals interested in real estate appraisal.  The approach provides important a pipeline of recruits and offers professional development opportunities for internal staff or individuals with no prior appraisal experience.

“We are interested in recruiting the best.  Here we are trying something new - if you're willing to work hard, care about public service and are enthusiastic about learning then we want to invest in you. We’ll teach you what you need to know to excel and be successful” said Assessor Carmen Chu.

Six recruits will be hired as part of the incoming class of trainees and participate in a 12-month training program that involves formal classroom courses, on-the-job exercises and supervised work assignments.  Upon completion, the trainees are prepared for certification through the California State Board of Equalization and become eligible for the selection process for entry-level appraisers.

The Office of the Assessor-Recorder generates the single largest source of revenue for the City’s discretionary funding.  Approximately $2.6 billion is collected annually in property taxes with 65% of revenues funding vital public services like fire, police, public health and family support services, 34% allocated to public education and 1% directed to the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD).
