MARCH 31ST MARKS DEADLINE FOR HOMEOWNERS TO APPLY FOR AN INFORMAL REVIEW WITH THE OFFICE OF THE ASSESSOR-RECORDER

San Francisco, CA – Tuesday, March 31st, will mark the last day residential property owners will be able to file an informal review with the Office of the Assessor-Recorder. This courtesy service is provided at no charge and is only available to property owners in a single family dwelling, residential condominiums, townhouses, live-work lofts, and cooperative units.

Property owners can apply for a review online, by mail, or in person.  The application can be found by visiting www.sfassessor.org.  We encourage submitting the application online.  However, applications can also be mailed to: San Francisco Assessor-Recorder’s Office, ATTN: Informal Assessment Review, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, City Hall, Room 190, San Francisco, CA 94102.  Mail-in requests for an informal review must be postmarked by the March 31, 2015 deadline. The application can also be faxed to (415) 554-7915 or emailed to informalreviewRP@sfgov.org.  We ask that submitters print clearly and keep a copy for your records.

Homeowners can apply for a review for a temporary reduction every year between January and March if they believe their home has declined in value. Taxpayers may visit http://propertymap.sfplanning.org to view their current assessed value.  Property owners will be notified of the results of their informal review in the annual Notice of Assessed Value (NAV), which will be mailed out in July 2015.  A formal appeal of the assessed value communicated in the NAV can be filed beginning July 2, through September 15, 2015 with the Assessment Appeals Board by calling (415) 554-6778 or visiting www.sfbos.org.
